A lot of times is has to do with trademark issues with an old agency or studio, if you were an exclusive contract star in the old days like the old Digital Playground or Wicked Pictures stars. Many girls don't own the trademark for their stage names because the agency they first sign with or a studio do. I think they file all the paperwork and take the cost. When you're new and only planning on shooting for a year or less it makes sense. It becomes a problem when you become successful and/or want to switch or leave your agency. You have to then buy your old name or have ownership transferred to you somehow or abandon your old name.
