Whether you agree with or not, i don't, although Clinton was neither a reasonable or viable candidate herself, it is another example of a sea change in world politics, first Brexit and now this. Seeems te whole world has a lot of reflection to do.

The democratic party cockblocked the candidate people wanted and tried to shove Clinton into the white house by force.
It is not about how popular Trump is, because he is a monkey with a bad haircut. It is about how little Clinton is liked. Democrats have no one else to blame but themselves.

Is Trump really "common sense" or did he win partly down to "shouting and bawling" and keeping policy out of the discussion ?


The over-riding issues with the US Presidencial election are:

- the people have basically said they want a change in how politics are conducted

- they want representation and they want to see it benefit them in a tangible way

- they are sick of politics prioritising the powerful/corporations and the way politicans are bought and paid for

- The mainstream media were unable to stem the tide and wikileaks played a major part in showing how politics are actually conducted

- The Democratic Party is riddled with corruption that has it's root in corportation/powerful interests.

- The Republican Party is all over the place

- The Election system needs to give fairer access to other parties/individuals and hugely scale back the money involved


Trump isn't Commen Sense as such, he's what there was..... in an election that presented a choice you might expect in a 3rd world country in Central Africa.



Also someone's actually run the numbers on this. 70% of campaign pledges made by US Presidential candidates are enacted. I suspect the majority of those that aren't are attempted, but blocked by Congress.

Is it surprising that Presidents try to govern as they said they would? Maybe Trump will be an exception. I always thought 'The Wall' was a piece of rhetoric, and anyone who knows the terrain will tell you it's not feasible, but it's classic Keynsian economics to have big programmes of public works stimulate the economy - maybe that's the idea? I have to say I'm surprised by what seems to be an early (very early!) U-turn on Obamacare, so anything is possible.

- I will add, pretty much a lot of what Trump has said is 100% rhetoric - to win the appeal of voters. People all over the world are sick and tired of the system that is, and obviously there are dangers created from this, i.e, potential nutters running for high office. However, I don't think trump is one of those, he is most likely just another puppet who has made pledges that he will break - as have pretty much all leaders done for quite some time now.

He has made some U-turns on Obamacare? has he though, he hasn't even been inaugurated yet so we don't even know what he will do. Fewer voted for Trump than Romney or even McCain 8 year before. Trump becoming president has more to do with Hillary being horrible alternative. Many people stay home and did not vote.

I don't think so. Hillary is just another cynical hard-bitten self-serving professional politician. I don't think after 30+ years in Washington that Hillary or her advisors are naive or susceptible to flattery. I don't think they are any more dangerous than the Obama administration.

In my experience so far, most Trump supporters locked onto one or more of the (many) things he said and promises he made and voted for him to do that one thing they care about and think he's joking or exaggerating about everything else. I've seen people say they voted for him for immigration but hope he was just joking about dismantling Obamacare, for example, because they depend on that.
