Sometimes a story breaks that really puts the talk of big cash firmly where it belongs, in the distance.

I see Ronaldinho and Riquelme have offered to come out of retirement and play for Chapecoense for free. They think the plane ran out of fuel btw

@anonimis

I see another player has offered to play for them now. Eidur Gudjohnsen.

^Panathinaikos have really struggled in recent years, not only because of the surge to supremacy of Olympiakos over the last decade. They seem to be miles behind their bitter rivals again and Olympiakos are not a particularly good side at the moment. Maybe this season you think?

The problem in Greece is the arbitrage.
The arbiters support Olympiakos and help this awful team to win every match in Greek Champion.
So Olympiakos every year is the champion of Greek League and go direct to the Champions League.
Gets 20 million euros and every year becomes richer.
The others teams in Greece haven't money to compete Olympiakos.
Panathinaikos has problem with his coach and with some players.
I don't think this year change something.
At the end Olympiakos will be the winner again, because everyone in arbitrage proctects this team.

P.S. Sorry for my english.

There's an example in most countries. There's always the other side of the coin too almost every year. In Finland, Mariehamn, founded in 1919, won their first ever honour last year winning the Finnish Cup. This season they did the unthinkable last month and won the Finnish League title on the final day.

Beautiful place btw, Mariehamn

Done well Legia. At this level (of boredom) you've got to die fighting. No point in going out with no honour and with a wihimper like Zagreb. Just try

As it's now only a month 'til the Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon, any fans? I've been watching since 1992 but miss the days before professionalism when sheer natural talent produced the unbelievable every day. Now it's less prevalent but has it's moments. As always, it's the hardest international competition to call with over half the field genuine contenders. Its still my favourite football tourney by light years

Group A
Gabon
Burkina Faso
Cameroon
Guinea-Bissau

Group B
Algeria
Tunisia
Senegal
Zimbabwe

Group C
Ivory Coast
DR Congo
Morocco
Togo

Group D
Ghana
Mali
Egypt
Uganda

That's them. Tough call. What of Egypt who missed out in qualifying everytime since they last won it about 8 years ago?

I think they should have prizes for "best drama queen" and "worst simulation" in each match.

PSG against Barca should be good. All the Arsenal fans I know were talking about getting Bayern again as soon as they qualified, I'm sure they'll be delighted to be proved right.

Yes, not everybody is happy as always. At this moment in time though Bayern, Atletico and PSG are not the sides we've known recently.

I just grabbed it :p

Since Manchester City became a rich club and now winning things will be a general norm for many years to come, my hunger for watching football in the Premiership/CL has greatly diminished. I've always loved the Africa Cup of Nations and never miss it. My one great love left

^Interesting suggestion. 11 aside, no soft tackles aloud, dribble with purpose, shoot to score.

Leicester City sack Claudio Ranieri. The most despicable, snidey, creepy, undeserved sacking in UK football history and that's saying a lot. Unbelievable

Yeah that's disgusting to see. They lost their linchpin in the summer and that certainly hurt them, but the rest of the team haven't stepped up. I feel for the guy, genuinely lovely bloke who achieved something incredible last season.

In other news, Gent put Tottenham out of Europe

Leicester's owners are a complete joke. The players aren't much better either.

Ranieri should have been given the whole season at the very least.

A lot of papers are reporting today that his own players stabbed him in the back. Some of them apparently went straight to the board stating they have idea about what they're doing week in week out, that Claudio was all over the place with preperation and team selection.

Knowing the media this could be complete bollocks though.
