Poll: Smaller File Size for Videos with H265

Postby error01x » Tue Apr 24, 2018 7:11 am

The new H265 codec is much better than the H264 codec. With the H265 it's possible to have the same video quality in a smaller file size. The files here are too big in my opinion. What do you think?

I'm all in for h.265 in this topic. I just can't make it with 4k and that's fcukin why I bought 4k TV, now it's useless and LP still didn't fix sketchy download bandwidth. AND using dinosaur codecs for 4k video doesn't help it at all.

Really who wants a 4K File that is 14 GB? When we can have a 4K file in 7 GB. Do you guys really spent money on expensive 10 TB Harddisks?

4K file sizes at LP are large, however, I do not want any picture quality to suffer just to reduce the file size. I am happy with the way things are.

H265 is not ready yet it still a really bad codec compared with h264. I dont want the quality be reduced because ppl can't buy a simple 2-3TB HDDs. Why you need a 10TB HDD? are you buying all porn of world or what?

lol I have surpassed the need for a 10tb HDD a LONG time ago. Don't forget, that for every byte you download you need another byte for back up.

Brazzers has a file size for a video with 1080p 50min at 1.8 GB. Why are your files larger LP?

Brazzers have a pure trash video quality. they went from the best video quality on a porn website to the worst ever possible.

If you cant afford a simple 2-3 tb hdd is your problem not others ppl problem.

Video quality is very important to me, watching on a 50" TV FWIW.

Smaller video sizes would be great provided:

1) The video quality doesn't suffer.
2) My TV could still play the files. I'm not sure how up to date it's support may be for newer codecs.

For people commenting on hard disk storage costs, does the Pornbox system not stop this being an issue?

Yep, so many porn fans do not give a shit about quality, they would take a shitty quality video over a great quality video as long as it has a much smaller file size because they are too cheap to buy a larger hard drive. Those same people usually are fine with tube site quality and pirate videos anyway because they do not want to pay for a membership. Keep the current 4k videos EXACTLY as they are, never sacrifice video quality for smaller file sizes. I have several 6-10 TB hard drives exactly for this reason!

This proves my point above, you are clearly find with absolute dogshit quality like what Brazzers provided. I wouldn't download their crappy videos if they were free! You are clearly content with lower quality video.

The quality of Brazzers is not so good yeah. But they use still the H264 codec

Nobody tested the H265 codec for videos yet. The H265 codec can keep the quality in half of the size.

A quick Google suggests that hardware support would still be a significant issue for many so I certainly don't think LP should switch to exclusively using H265 for now. Implementing it purely for 4k might have fewer issues although even then there are early 4k TVs that it appears wouldn't be able to play them.

Sadly, H265 will probably never be adepted on commercial sites due to the licensing costs.
It seems we will have to wait for the royalty-free AV1-Codec.

I can only watch H265 using my Roku's. Though I still prefer the quality of h264 streamed over my faithful Blu-ray players.

My vote goes to stick with h264.

For context H264 first came out in 2003 - the point being there can be a big time lag between the release of a new video codec and its mainstream use, due to the requirements for hardware to 'catch up'.

Whatever, quality is everything for me. Unless there is 100% no loss of quality then keep files sizes and formats the same.

A different way to make use of the H265 codec long term would be to keep the file size the same but to IMPROVE picture quality...

I just want to clarify why i want to stick with h264. My choice is driven purely by compatibility.

I can play h264 on all my devices: Blu-ray, PC, Phone, Roku. H265 I'm limited to Roku. My pc is too old to play h265 smoothly. My bluray players reject h265 altogether. Picture quality is better playing through my bluray players than my Roku mainly due to i can adjust contrast, sharpness, colour saturation, etc.

I have no doubt h265 can deliver equal PQ at smaller file sizes...but it just doesn't have widespread hardware support in legacy devices.I

It's work to do, but those wanting 4K LP files in h265 to economize storage space could download the h264 file and encode to h265 using Handbrake or Avidemux.

Can't you make those adjustments on your TV when using Roku?

Yes, but my projector is not so easy to adjust. Most of my preferred viewing of movies and LP sessions just look better on my protector using my networked blu-ray player. Also, blown up to 110" screen, same 1080p h264 content i find looks better than h265 even when using the Roku. I realize the limitations are my equipment, but I'm not ready to upgrade everything just to save on storage space when 8 TB hard drives are just $130.

Ah, that makes more sense. I've got no experience with projectors. Porn on a 110" screen must be quite the spectacle!

I think they should wait for AV1 codec and then go for the best possible quality.
I don't mind large files, picture quality is more important.
